Weekly Recap and Arkansas Weekend

I’m writing this post as I am on my way back from a great weekend in Arkansas! We flew out on Friday to spend the weekend celebrating our niece’s first birthday (which is on Tuesday) and her Baptism!

She got to try cake for the first time, and I think she liked it.

We also got to do some running while we were out there (one of my favorite things about the area is the perfect running trail right up the street from my SIL’s house). arkansas running

Soon it will be back to reality, until I go away again in 4 days! So for now, here is how my week of workouts looked.

weekly workout recap

Monday: 5.1 miles with hill repeats, core/hip exercises. It was raining, so I wore a hat, but then my headlamp wasn’t bright enough. I ended up wrapping it around my hand which helped a little but obviously the light moved around a lot as I swung my arms!

Tuesday: 3.2 miles easy, CXWORX on YouTube

Wednesday: 5.75 miles with 4 @ 7:30 pace, core work

Thursday: Strength training, 30 minutes yoga

dead lifts

Friday: 4 easy miles plus core and hip exercises. It was 65 degrees and humid! I was sweating in shorts and a long-sleeved T-shirt.

Saturday: 7 miles on the Lake Fayetteville Trail in Arkansas with Rob

Sunday: 4 miles on the trail before heading to the airport

Total: 29.06 miles

Walked: 18.3    Push-ups: 4 days

Yearly Total: 574

It’s nice to get in a Sunday run when traveling, because then I make Monday a rest day. I wouldn’t have been too excited to run back in Baltimore where it’s supposed to be cold and windy.

Do you know how old you were when you first ate sugar/cake?

Do you like to run when you travel, or do you try to relax as much as possible?

Do you wear a headlamp and baseball cap at the same time when it rains? Have you figured out how to do this without the cap blocking the light?

  1. 66 and humid actually doesn’t sound too bad to me since we’re back in the mid to upper 80s (and always humid) here. I was looking through my training log from earlier this year last night and realized I definitely took our cooler weather for granted in Jan/Feb!

How do you get pics of you running? Like the one of you and Rob together? I keep seeing so many cool running shots on Instagram and I can’t figure out how everyone gets them! Do you setup your camera on auto somewhere and then just run by it?

    • So the one of Rob and I was actually taken by my sister who happened to drive by with my mom when we were finishing up our run! Usually I just set the timer and run by or do a video and then take a picture of a frame. It’s never perfect but sometimes I get lucky!

  2. Your niece is adorable! I struggle with how to handle a headlamp and hat when it’s raining too. It’s a bit awkward, but I put my headlamp on under the hat so that it sits high on my forehead and then push the hat up a bit. Not perfect, but I’ve also tried wrapping it around my hand and also wearing it like a necklace and those didn’t work so well. The challenges of early morning, rainy runs!

  3. I haven’t used a headlamp in years but I remember having the same problem as I used to always wear a hat when running so it messed me up when I needed the light. Great job on that week last week. This won’t come as a surprise to you but I run when I’m on vacation! Running is FUN! So taking a break from it would be very sad. We booked a Mexico trip and I’ll be hitting the treadmill every morning before the Coronas! Wahoo!

  4. another travel run! I love running when I travel, best way to see a city in my opinion. 65 and humind…sounds like a typical spring day to me lol. enjoy those cold temps while you can its going to be such a hot summer i dont even want to think about it

  5. Lisa, your niece is just beautiful! I love this picture of yall! I would also say she loves cake too! Sounds like a great weekend with family and I love a new running route so I will try and run when I’m in new places. Now that I’m streaking, I have a feeling I’m gonna be running in a lot of new places over the next few months! As always thanks for linking up! I’m so impressed you got this done while traveling, that is hard for me! Safe travels back home!

  6. Pretty solid week of training here! good job !
I used a hat with a headlamp once, but it was a short rim hat. Also, my headlap tilts up, so I had no problems with visibility.
I don’t remember the first time I had sugar, but there is a picture of me hogging a bottle of Coke around the age of 3, a habit that took me about 30 years to give up.

  7. Great job with the vacation trail running! When I go on vacation, I usually have to run alone and I actually hate exploring a new area alone. I like to stick to what I know unless I’ve got company. I wish I was more of a risk-taker but it’ll be awhile before that habit changes.
