Route 66 Marathon Training Week 4

I guess I would say I am back into the swing of things with training after being sick for a while. However, my cough is still lingering and it definitely impacted my race on Saturday (more on that tomorrow). Here is how the rest of the week looked:

weekly workout recap

Monday: 5 miles easy, hip and core exercises

Tuesday: 5 miles with 3 at MGP

Wednesday: Total body strength workout and stretching/mobility

Thursday: 5 miles easy, hip and core exercises

Friday: Rest

Saturday: Dreaded Druid Hills 10k plus 1.2 mile warm up

Sunday: 10 miles

Total: 32.4 miles

A slight bump in mileage this week, along with a longer race (so far this year I have only raced 5ks). Spoiler for tomorrow’s post: it didn’t go great, but the good news is I wasn’t really sore for Sunday’s 10 miler.

I have another race next weekend – the Charles St 12- so hopefully that will be a chance to redeem myself.

I feel like I spent the whole weekend running! But I did also get in some time at the pool- I can’t believe labor day is next weekend and the pool will be closing for the season! Where did the summer go?!

How were your workouts last weekend?

Are you ready for fall or are you like me and wishing for a few more weeks of summer?

  1. That’s great that you are finally feeling better! It was funny to see your post about the Route 66 Marathon training pop up in my inbox because I had JUST been reading about the race as a possible half marathon for my husband and I to do. It looks pretty flat. Do you know much about the overall event? Good luck with your training!

I am definitely not ready for summer to end. Our winter in Maine last year was brutal so I am soaking up every second of warm summer weather I can. But I have to admit, I do love the slightly cooler temps for running. recently posted…Outer Banks, North Carolina. My Profile

  2. I have mixed emotions about fall. I’m ready to run in cooler weather but it means I have to give up my beloved water skiing. It’s great to hear you are feeling better. Hopefully that cough will be gone soon. It looks like you had a very strong week of training. Good luck on your upcoming race and thanks for linking up with us today!

  3. Hey, that race time is nothing to be ashamed of, that’s for sure! It’s a great time even without the cough. I feel really bad for you that you were so sick this last bit of summer. Can’t wait to hear more details about the race.

  4. Sorry to hear that your race didn’t go so well, but at least you had a great week for mileage! Every mile counts, even the bad ones:) Really glad you are feeling better (I am too!!).
I am sooo not ready for fall! I feel like summer flew bad even faster than usual, so I would do anything for just a few more weeks of summer, booooo….

  5. The cough is always the last to go for me, even when I feel better. :( It looks like you had a good run week though. So glad you were not sore for your 10miler after your race that’s great! A lot of our pools close too after Labor Day but dang I really don’t know why, I mean we could very easily swim on into October even November around here. I am glad for Fall around the corner while our school schedule is in full swing we are still in the summer mode of staying up late. Guess that too will work itself out! Thanks for linking up with us and look forward to hearing about your race details! :)

  6. Whaaat, your pool closes? That’s such a northern thing. I go in the pool pretty much all year long, haha.

Sorry to hear that your 10 mile race didn’t go according to plan, but that just means you will be even more determined to make the 12-mile race this weekend perfect!

  7. Nice job getting in the miles last week! Bummer the 10k wasn’t great, but to keep it in perspective, it’s not your goal race, it’s summer time, and those hills are NO JOKE. I was feeling a little down after the Balt 10 miler earlier this year, but the most helpful thing my bf said to me was “It’s not your goal race. You didn’t spend 16 weeks training for it!” It definitely helped to hear that :)
I have mixed feelings about Fall’s quick approach! Right now, it’s refreshing when I’m able to run outside before it really warms up past 75 degrees, but I think part of that is because I’m still sweating buckets on every other run outside. Once it’s October, I might already be over fall 😉

  8. Oh no, sorry about that pesky cough! Even though the race didn’t go the way you would have liked, it was still a great workout for your training! I’m super ready for fall. We just had another 110 degree day, so I don’t think it’s coming anytime soon, but at least I can start eating pumpkin flavored stuff and pretend like it’s nice out ha :)
