Friday Five: Things That Make Me Happy

This week I came across four different blog posts with the title “Things That Make Me Happy”. I was inspired to make my own list of what makes me happy these days, especially after yesterday’s depressing “I hate winter” post

And what better way to do that than in “Friday Five” format, since this week is open to any topic we choose! Thanks Courtney, Cynthia, and Mar

Here are the blog posts that were the inspiration behind this:

She’s Going The Distance

The Cookie Chrunicles

Foodie Loves Fitness

A Side of Dessert

And now, for my list:

1. Pajamas. Lately whenever I am home all I want to do is put on some warm pajamas and curl up on the couch. I am always trying to get in comfortable clothes as soon as I walk in the door but in the summer I’m happy in shorts and a t-shirt. Lately it’s all about pajamas and hoodies- lots of layers.

2. Seeing our house being built. Lately we have been able to see quite a bit of progress each time we go! Visiting the house to take pictures and measurements is something to look forward to each week. And now I’m counting down the weeks until we can move in!

3. Dark chocolate. Ever since finishing the Whole30 dark chocolate has been my go-to sweet treat. I definitely don’t have a taste for really sugary deserts so this is perfect. I made a little mix of chocolates from Fresh Market last weekend, and each night grab a few pieces after dinner.

4. Wine. Red, to be more specific. I don’t think this needs much more of an explanation.

5. Running. I haven’t been running much lately, and I feel like I never get to run outside any more. But its made me appreciate the runs I do get to do even more, and makes me really look forward to spring running.

    • I agree about yoga pants being “dressing up”- its much harder to put them on than pajamas or sweats:)

    • I can’t wait either! I need to keep these days in mind when I am back to running outside whenever I want. I never want to take that for granted:)

  1. #1 Being able to walk to my kids homes instead of driving from Philly.
#2 My puffy coat that Katie bought me.
#3 My great slippers that Louie bought me.
    #4 Chocolate…and it’s not always dark either.
    #5 Beer, sometimes wine too.

Hawaii would always be my top choice.

Your home is looking really nice! You are going to be so happy there!

    • Great list! I’m sure it’s so nice to be so close to everyone, especially after having lived in a different state! And I am sure you needed a warm coat just about every day this winter. YES to Hawaii!!
You will have to come see the house once we are settled! We’re getting really close now:)

    • Yes-fun but stressful! I think that moving and decorating are going to be a real challenge, but it will be worth it!

  2. Wow, how exciting is it to see each step in the building process of your house?! That’s fantastic! I love everything you shared! I’ve been changing into sweats and hoodies as soon as I step through the door! And common, you can’t go wrong with dark chocolate and wine! Thank you for mentioning me as well, always appreciated :) Have a fabulous weekend!

    • It’s fun, but definitely stressful too. It will be better once we are settled there and can enjoy the other 4 things.

  3. Hahaha! Okay, I am not pointing this out to be rude, but you wrote “couching discount” instead of coaching discount. That cracks me up because I ALWAYS type “couch” instead of coach! I’m glad I’m not the only one! :)

When do you think your house will be done? It looks like it’s really getting there! I’m so excited for you!

    • HA! Thanks for letting me know:) There are a bunch of words like that for me but I am usually so careful about them because I mess them up all the time! My autocorrect always likes to changes “glutes” to “flutes” to I try to be careful about that one:)

    • Oh, and we are supposed to close in about a month. But it’s just about done! We will probably move in early April:)

    • That’s a great one! Little things like that can make all the difference during a tough week!

  4. I’m so excited to hear that your house is coming along nicely; what an exciting adventure (and probably a bit nerve-wracking, as well!) and I know you’ll be thrilled when you are able to move in. Wine is definitely something that makes me happy; whatever I choose to eat after my marathon on Sunday is also definitely going to make me happy – ha! Hope you have a great weekend, Lisa!

    • The house stuff can be really nerve-wracking but I know it will be worth it in the end! Enjoy your post-marathon meal…that is always the best!

  5. How exciting on watching your new house being built!! I’d be there all day taking photos! LOL
I’m not a chocolate person at all, so you can keep the dark chocolate but I love wine, so I would share that with you if I was there!
I’ve been running on the mill a little more than I would care to this time of the year, so I will be happy when spring comes and I can run outside most of the time.
Where would I go if I won that giveaway….hmmm…I am thinking Bahamas, Australia or St Thomas :)

    • We try to go there every weekend to take pictures and see the progress! It’s really fun!
OK I will eat all the chocolate but we can share the wine!:)
I can’t wait for spring either! And your vacation ideas sound fabulous!

  6. Getting back to running has made me so happy. I was cranky for such a long time because I couldn’t run. I’m enjoying being able to run again and I’m having fun.

And chocolate and wine are always good :)

    • Haha yep when I think back on winter 2015 I will pretty much remember drinking wine in my pajamas.
      Thanks! It’s very exciting:)

    • I am crossing my fingers for a spring-like March too! I am not happy about seeing more snow in the 10 day forecast!

  7. Yep yep yep I could go along with most of these. The first thing I’ve been doing after work is changing into pajamas. And running will never fail to make me happy. If I’m not smiling while I’m out there, something’s wrong. I don’t know if I would feel the same way on the treadmill… oh, and chocolate. YEP. Happy Friday :)

    • It’s really hard to get the same feeling from running on a treadmill. The only positive is that I like to sweat and that is bound to happen on a treadmill. Have a great weekend!

    • It’s definitely the way to go! I don’t understand how my husband can stay in his work clothes all evening. I am reading to change the second I walk in the door!

  8. It’s crazy how happy putting on my flannel PJs makes me! Love seeing everything that makes you happy, what a fun list!

    • Thanks, it’s pretty exciting! Yay for another chocolate and wine lover:) Enjoy your weekend!

    • Thank you!! I think with the crappy weather we have been having its been even more important to rely on these little things to help us stay positive:)

    • Wine, chocolate, and PJs seems to be the perfect combo! And you don’t necessarily need a house, just a comfy couch:)

  9. So many great things to be happy about! I’ve been seeing more and more posts like this as well and I think it’s important to take stock in the things that do make us smile. Especially right now with winter all miserable and seemingly unending. :) I’ve been getting a lot of good use out of my comfiest pjs too!

    • It really helped me to write this post! I was feeling really blah the other night so I forced myself to think about happy stuff. (Obviously while drinking wine and eating chocolate in pajamas…)

    • Thanks Ashley! I definitely feel like talking about the happy stuff makes me feel better! Writing this post helped me get out of a winter-funk I was in the other day. Have a great time at your wine-tasting!

    • I hate when you find the perfect piece of clothing and then you can’t ever find it again! My favorites this year are from the gap.Hopefully banana will still making others like your favorites again!

    • Red wine is definitely my go-to drink, especially in the winter! Glad that you gave it a try and that you liked it!

  10. Yep. Yep. Yep! Dark chocolate is a must! Red wine is such a wonderful treat and as soon as I walk in the door I take off my shoes and put on my PJs! :)
Another happy thing for me islavender baths with candlelight, classical music and massages.
Your house is so pretty – so exciting!!!
    Have a great weekend!!

    • Thank you! I love taking a nice relaxing bath as well! Oh and massages are amazing!

    • Thanks Nicole! Its pretty exciting! We went back yesterday and now I just want to move in like immediately:)

    • I enjoy them together but even just one at a time is good enough:) Glad that you share in my enjoyment of these things!

  11. I live in my pjs pretty much when I’m not a work or out in public haha. I don’t know what it is, but I’m just made for comfort clothes. I like to get dressed up every once in a while, but other than that I love my workout clothes and pjs:) Have you heard of Pajamagram? They can run on the expensive side, but I got a pair of coffee-themed pjs for Christmas and they are so so comfy!
Hailey recently posted…The search is over!My Profile

    • I love comfy clothes too! I wish I could just wear sweat pants or pajamas all the time!
I have never heard of pajamagram! That sounds amazing!

    • Thank you! Yes, a nice cozy blanket makes these cold winter nights even better!
